HEALTH: Chia Seeds

I made a promise to you ladies and gents that I'll do a health post and here it is! Ever heard of chia seeds? No/yes? Well if it's the first time, it won't be your last.

Chia seeds are not only good for losing and maintaining your weight but also has other benefits such as:
  • Essential Fatty Acids – Omega 3 & 6
  • Fibre – both soluble &  insoluble fibre
  • Antioxidants
  • Protein & Amino Acids – it contains all 8 essential amino acids & more.
  • Essential Minerals; calcium, zinc, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, potassium
  • Vitamins A, B & E
  • Lower high blood pressure

So, what is Chia? Chia is a tiny little seed that is packed full of goodness.  It looks much like a poppy seed. It comes in black & white and they are nutritionally very similar. As far as we know one is no better than the other.

Theses tiny little seeds are more capable of what they may look as it provides energy, strength, & aids endurance. It helps regulate blood sugar levels, helps with weight loss and aids intestinal regularity. Sounds great huh?  So the next question, ‘how do I use it’?

So where so you start. You can grind it if you like or eat it as is. Chia seeds do not really have a taste and when mixed with other foods, it does not change the flavour at all. About one tablespoon a day is enough to get the health benefits. They also absorb liquids and double their size therefore making you feel more full.

  • Mix in through yoghurt or sprinkle it on top
  • Sprinkle it on salads
  • Add it to your cereal
  • Add to a fruit salad
  • Put a tablespoon in a smoothie
  • Stir it through juice or even water

You can also bake or cook with chia.
  • Add it to stir fries
  • Pop it in a cake, muffin or cookie

Basically you can use it in anything really. ♥
I hope this post was useful and tell me if you've ever heard or tried it!

P.S - Eating healthy is another way of living healthy. I don't think there is anything wrong with eating "non-healthy food." I believe it's a way of sustaining good health. Whatever you eat or drink or do in life, just work it off. Don't complain. Do something about it.

Also do your own research as well, I'm not a dietitian so don't blame me! LOL. ♥

Until next time,
Much love ♥ Phuju.
